Vigneti Piemontemare

The Piemontemare Vineyards, (Vigneti Piemontemare) belong to the Ghio family winery, established in 1881. These vineyards cover an area of about 20 hectares spread between terraces, streams and forests in the municipality of Bosio. This is the hilliest area from Gavi to Ovada and is the area that is closest to the Ligurian Sea in the Piedmont region.

From Bosio, heading south, ancient pathways lead to the Natural Park of Capanne di Marcarolo and the traditions of this border land are preserved with respect and love for the past.

To the north there is a great diversity of vineyards spread over a relatively small area. This great diversity is due to a variety of geophysical hill formations and determined by particular morphological conditions and different microclimates. This is why adjacent vineyards are very different and have unique characteristics.

In the lands of this undiscovered, and relatively unvisited part of Italy are situated the historic Vigneti Piemontemare, identified individually by vernacular terms still used today by the company in order to distinguish its wines: the grapes from the vineyards Pian Lazzarino, La Vecchia, L’Arciprete, Le Zucche, La Cascina, Zané, Piasi, Pilomberto and Fistonia, according to season are cultivated and vinified separately according to the philosophy of the vineyard to give maximum character to the wine.

Producing a wine means giving a voice to the land and conserving the memory of a year with its rain, snow, sun, wind and moons. This inseparable relationship between man and nature has given rise to that tradition which has made Piemonte wines great. Signs and gestures, ancient customs and respect for the environment allows the production of wines of outstanding character which expresses the nature of the vineyard from which they came, far from the whims of fashion.

By following a path to an ever greater environmental sustainability, such as not using herbicides, minimal use of sulphur dioxide in the wine cellar, burning vine wood for domestic heating, using lightweight bottles and partially recycling empty bottles, the company is committed to guaranteeing the integrity of its products.
